A Vision For Justice

Fairness

Every person deserves to be heard, and every case should be decided fairly and impartially based on the facts and the law.

Respect

No matter the outcome of a case, every person who enters the courtroom should be treated with dignity and respect.

Transparency & Accountability

People should understand how the court works and why decisions are made. Transparency builds trust and keeps the court accountable to the people it serves.

Efficiency
Going to court can already be stressful. Clear, efficient processes should respect people’s time, reduce confusion and unnecessary delays, and make the court easier to navigate.

A Practical Approach to Justice

Justice of the Peace court handles everyday legal matters that can have a real impact on people’s lives.

Sean understands the responsibility of the court and the importance of getting it right.

  • Justices of the Peace hear fine-only criminal cases, including traffic violations and Class C misdemeanors such as theft under $100, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and assault by contact. Sean’s background in law enforcement and criminal justice gives him a practical understanding of the laws and procedures involved in these cases.

  • Justices of the Peace hear small claims, debt collection, evictions, and other civil matters within the court’s jurisdiction. These cases can have a real impact on people’s homes, finances, and everyday lives, making fairness, clear processes, and respect for everyone involved especially important.

  • Justices of the Peace have a variety of other responsibilities, including reviewing warrants, making probable cause determinations, handling certain matters involving juveniles, and performing marriage ceremonies.
